Cambodia - The temple of Banteay Srei is known for the exquisite exuberance of its sandstone carvings, here a Kala (mythical all-devouring creature with bulbous eyes) and the god Siva. Banteay Srei is located about 25km northeast of the main group of temples in Angkor. The temple complexes of Angkor ('city') were the heart of the Khmer empire which flourished from the 9th to the 13th century and today are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
