Green Junglefowl - male
Green Junglefowl - male (Gallus varius). Introduced to the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Indian Ocean before 1879 where this photo was taken on West Island. Often seen foraging on grass edges of the airstrip and the road but wary birds quick to slip into dense roadside vegetation if a car stops. If surprised will fly off giving panic stricken calls. Endemic to the Indonesian Islands of Java, Madura, Bawean, Bali, Kangean and Lesser Sunda Islands
