HONEYPOT ANT - replete, hanging from roof of larder (Camponotus inflatus). Workers of the honeypot ant gather honeydew from scale insects and feed it to other workers, which act asnectar storage vessels with enlarged abdomens. The enlarged/replete ants hang from the ceiling of the nest chambers and regurgitate some of the nectar when promped by other workers. They are kept safe in deep underground galleries
