AUSTRALIA - Lower Lawn Hill Gorge
AUSTRALIA - Lower Lawn Hill Gorge. Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill) National Park, Gulf of Carpentaria, Queensland. Australia. Breeding habitat of Freshwater Crocodiles, Crocodylus johnstoni. The red sandstone cliffs are of extreme antiquity, having been laid down in a seabed about 1, 560 million years ago in Proterozoic times before the evolution of life forms beyond bacteria and algal-like stromatolites. Though in a semi arid climate now, the gorge supports lush gallery forest and wildlife due to the permanent waters flowing from limestone deposits upstream
